Scale AI Locates In The Post Building In St. Louis Downtown North District

The renovation and adaptive reuse of The Post Building will be the new St. Louis home for Scale AI.

Congratulations to John Berglund and Jim McKelvey on their recruitment of global AI leader, Scale AI, to The Post Building, already home to international fintech leader BLOCK (formerly Square) and other FinTech and Spatial Finance firms.

Steph Kukuljan's article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch highlights Scale AI's move to The Post Building as the latest chapter in the evolution of the 18-square block Downtown North Insight District, St. Louis' newest Innovation District.

In addition to the move by Scale AI to The Post Building, progress in the Downtown North District also includes:

  • the recent creation of a multi-block Community Improvement District (CID), which is providing enhanced security and improved infrastructure in this downtown innovation district;

  • the location of Geospatial Intelligence firms in the District at the nearby Globe Building (General Dynamics, Esri, T-Kartor USA, Westway, MAXAR, and most recently, BAE Systems);

  • the soon-to-open $1.75-billion, 100-acre, 1-million SF new new HQ of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, NGA (opening on September 26, just several blocks north);

  • a new Downtown Police Substation and HQ for the Downtown Bike Patrol;

  • the T-Rex GEOINT Incubator;

  • NGA's Moon Shot Labs;

  • the recent expansion of the America's Center convention and exhibition facility; and,

  • the multi-tenant 75,000 SF SCIF at The Globe Building (the largest such facility of its kind outside of the Washington, D.C. area).

NGA's $1.75-billion, 100-acre new HQ, several blocks north of the District, opens on September 26, 2025.

These civic assets are combining to establish center city St. Louis as a Geospatial, FinTech, Spatial Finance, and Defense Tech Innovation Hub.

“ST. LOUIS — An artificial intelligence company will relocate to the former Post-Dispatch building in downtown St. Louis as part of an effort to grow its work in national security.

San Francisco-based Scale AI, which employs 250 people here, will open its new lab at Tucker Boulevard and Cole Street in October. The company — which netted a $14 billion investment from Facebook parent company Meta earlier this summer — focuses on data labeling and model evaluation to help customers accelerate their own AI technology. It previously was located about a half-dozen blocks south… (continues)”
